What is happening right now?
Before we can change a response, we have to recognize it.
Notice the emotion.
Notice the physical reaction.
Notice the thoughts.
Notice the urge to react.
Awareness begins by paying attention without immediately acting.
What am I feeling?
Putting language to an emotion helps us better understand what we are experiencing.
Instead of simply saying:
"I'm upset."
We begin asking:
Am I frustrated?
Disappointed?
Rejected?
Overwhelmed?
Anxious?
The more accurately we can identify what we are feeling, the better equipped we become to respond to it.
What is driving this reaction?
Emotions rarely exist without context.
Ask:
What happened?
What did I assume?
What expectation did I have?
What am I afraid might happen?
What do I actually need right now?
Understanding does not mean excusing every reaction.
It means becoming curious enough to understand why the reaction exists
What do I need before I respond?
Not every emotion requires an immediate response.
Regulation creates enough space to think clearly before taking action.
That might mean:
-
Taking a few breaths.
-
Stepping away for a moment.
-
Waiting before sending the text.
-
Writing down what you are feeling.
-
Giving yourself time before making a decision.
The goal is not to eliminate emotion. It's to keep the emotion from making the decision for you.
What response moves me toward the outcome I actually want?
Once we understand what is happening, we can make a more intentional choice.
Ask:
What are my options?
What could happen if I react immediately?
What outcome do I want?
Does this response reflect who I want to be?
What decision will I feel good about later?
Intentional action means recognizing that there may be several possible responses and choosing instead of reacting automatically.

How does my choice affect me and the people around me?
Human intelligence does not stop with self-awareness.
Our words, reactions, boundaries, decisions, and behaviors affect our relationships.
Connection asks us to consider:
How can I communicate what I need?
Do I need to listen before responding?
Is a boundary needed?
Do I need to apologize?
Do I need to ask for help?
Can I disagree without disrespecting someone?
What happens next in this relationship?
The goal is not perfect communication.
It is more thoughtful communication.
The Human Intelligence Awareness-To-Action Guide™
Understanding what you feel is important; but knowing what to do with that awareness is what helps create meaningful change.
The DHI Awareness-to-Action Guide™ is a practical tool developed by Discover Human Intelligence™ to help individuals slow down, recognize what is happening internally, understand what may be driving their response, regulate before reacting, and choose a more intentional next step.
Reaction → Awareness → Understanding → Regulation → Intentional Action

DHI Awareness-to-Action Guide™
FROM REACTION TO INTENTIONAL ACTION
Every day, we experience situations that can trigger emotions, thoughts, assumptions, and automatic reactions.
Someone says something that makes you angry.
A friend leaves you out.
You receive criticism.
You feel pressure to fit in.
You are overwhelmed and do not know what to say.
You want to set a boundary but are afraid of how someone will respond.
Those moments happen quickly.
Learning to pause, evaluate choices, consider consequences, and respond with purpose. Instead of immediately reacting, individuals learn a repeatable process for recognizing their internal response and making a more intentional decision.
The DHI Awareness-to-Action Guide™ helps create space between what happens to us and what we choose to do next.
